This Sunday's game was held at Ernhale's picturesque home ground on Thackery Lane whose vista was only equalled by the 'total football' played by Carlton. It was a nervous start however as Ernhale attacked with confidence from the whistle. The scores were only kept level by a number of great defensive plays by Rasharn and saves by Matthew - one great shot parry onto the cross bar had the crowd on all sides applauding. This save seemed to be catalyst for Carlton as Finnley and Thierry began to dominate the wings and create space for the team to begin passing. With a new found confidence and a passing game beginning to gel, it was only a matter of time before the deadlock was broken, and Keeton provided it with a great strikers goal. Any early hesitancy was now banished and Aaron and Adam both came close to adding to the score before Finnley got on the end of a break away attack to confidently stroke in the second. Great first half performance by all.
Second half saw a few changes made by coach Jay including D'Andre coming on from the subs bench to support Keeton in attack,. His presence was immediately felt as his tenacious runs and tackling brought a new dimension to the play. Aiden in midfield also began to shine and made some great challenges and runs to put pay to any thoughts of a come back by Ernhale. The passing game established in the first half continued and was rewarded with a third goal for Carlton and second for Keeton. Carlton had developed by now an attractive passing game and Thierry made it four with a cross field shot that despite a great effort by Ernhale keeper made it across the line. In the final minutes Ernhale scored as deserved consolation goal to reward their attacking style and sportsmanship play. Four -One was the final score, great game, great morning and great entertainment for the touchline fans. Thanks to Ernhale for their hospitality - and not just because I won the raffle !
