Report

The Colts finished off their succesful season by thumping unbeaten Division 3 Champions Bestwood Park White 5-0 in the Sunday Trophy Cup Final. the Colts started the most relaxed and positive side and took only 5 minutes to take the lead when Stannos run and cross found Daniel who coolly slotted home from 10 yards. Max then came rushing out of his area to smother an attack whilst the outstanding Matthew Anderson kept the dangerous Bestwood striker quiet and left them having to shoot from distance. The Colts then went further in front when Ewans cross was brilliantly headed home by Daniel for his second of the game and it was just what the Colts deserved. The Colts were visibly lifted by this and kept on attacking as Bestwood looked on shell shocked, the Colts were then awarded a penalty as Ethan weaved his way into the area before being tripped and Finn left the keeper motionless as he smashed the spot kick home. The Colts went further in front when Joe won a 50/50 tackle in the middle of the field and set up another attack and as Bestwood called for the excellent referee to stop the game, Ethan fired in a shot from the edge of the area that nestled in the corner of the net, amazingly the Colts were 4-0 up and in sight of a tremendous league and cup double. As the half was nearing a close, Ewan picked the ball up on the left and drove into the area before beating the keeper at the near post to make it 5! The second half saw a more even game with the Colts not giving Bestwood time to settle on the ball and although they had a couple of good chances the Colts defence stood tall. Bradley had his best game of the season and Narayan came on and gave 100% as usual and won more than his share of tackles. The Colts managed to keep another clean sheet and are the first team this season to beat Bestwood and prevent them from scoring. This has been a very successful season for the Colts and this is down to the hard work and commitment of all the squad; Max, Liam, Bradley, Matthew A, George, Ryan, Ewan, Finn, Ethan, Daniel, Matthew S, Joe, Josh, Narayan and the unfortunate Jake who was missing from the final due to being in France on a school trip but deserves congratulations on completing his first season at Carlton Town and has played his part in our success.
